US: Grammy watch - BMG artists and songwriters bring home 11 awards
Music’s biggest night, the 66th Grammy Awards culminated on Sunday, February 4 with nine artists and songwriters taking home 11 awards, capped off by BBR Music Group recording artist Lainey Wilson winning Best Country Album, after sweeping both the ACM and CMA Awards, and BMG songwriter Victoria Monét winning Best New Artist.
Larkin Poe kicked off the Premiere Ceremony performing ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ in an all-star tribute to Prince with Kylie Minogue taking home one of the first awards of the evening, her second Grammy award (20 years after winning her first) for Best Pop Dance Recording with ‘Padam Padam’.
Brett Morgen, the mastermind behind Moonage Daydream, BMG’s critically acclaimed film on David Bowie, accepted the award for Best Music Film. Soon after, Victoria Monét’s team then accepted the award for JAGUAR II for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Award-winning BMG songwriter Carly Pearce presented a series of awards in the Country & American Roots music category including Best Country Song for ‘White Horse’ co-written by Dan Wilson, Best Contemporary Blues Album for Larkin Poe’s Blood Harmony, and Best Roots Gospel Album for Blind Boys of Alabama’s Echoes of the South.
Legendary BMG recording artist Jimmy Jam introduced the R&B, Rap, & Spoken Word Poetry category with a number of BMG artists and songwriters winning awards including Best R&B Album for Victoria Monét’s JAGUAR II, and Best Rap Song for 'Scientists & Engineers’ co-written by DJ Paul and Dion "No I.D." Wilson,
BMG recording artist Rufus Wainwright served as a presenter for the Pop, Rock/Metal, and Alternative while in the Jazz category, The Omnichord Real Book by Meshell Ndegeocello won for Best Alternative Jazz Album.
During the telecast portion, superstar Lainey Wilson won Best Country Album for her latest release Bell Bottom Country, Victoria Monét was awarded Best New Artist, while Fantasia Barrino performed an amazing tribute to Tina Turner, who passed away on May 24, 2023.
